Controller

Our client is a well-established and highly respected ownership group with investments and operations spanning the hospitality and commercial retail development industries. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a hands-on, strategic Controller to join their leadership team in Madera, California.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting and finance professional who wants to move beyond traditional accounting and become a trusted advisor to ownership. The Controller will play a key role in financial stewardship, growth initiatives, lender relationships, land development projects, and long-term strategic planning.

Position Summary

The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions while partnering directly with ownership and executive leadership on major business initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, business acumen, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

This role supervises a team of two accounting professionals and offers significant visibility across multiple business entities and investment activities.

Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
Prepare and analyze accurate and timely financial statements
Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial reporting
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and applicable regulations
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of two accounting professionals
Partner directly with ownership on strategic financial initiatives and business objectives
Support land acquisition, land development, and commercial real estate projects from a financial perspective
Assist with investment analysis, financial modeling, and capital planning
Build and maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, and external financial partners
Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation activities, and interactions with outside CPA firms
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting efficiency, and operational performance
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA designation preferred but not required
7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role
Experience within hospitality, commercial real estate, land development, construction, property management, or related industries is highly desirable
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
Proven ability to partner with owners, executives, lenders, and external stakeholders
Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills
Advanced proficiency with accounting and financial systems
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: Up to $175,000
