Assistant Controller

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the Controller and finance leadership team by overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close processes, internal controls, and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Review account reconciliations and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
• Monitor and improve internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Assist with external audits, tax reporting, and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Partner with operations and department leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
• Participate in system implementations, process improvements, and special projects.
• Analyze financial results, identify trends, and recommend operational improvements.
• Support cash management, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and cost accounting activities as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience leading month-end close and financial statement preparation.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.

## Highly Desired Qualifications

• CPA designation or CPA-track candidate.
• Agriculture, manufacturing, food processing, distribution, or related industry experience.
• Experience supervising accounting personnel.
• Exposure to cost accounting, inventory accounting, and operational finance.
• Experience with ERP platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, or similar systems.
