Job Position: Assistant Controller
Salary: $100K – $135K (Salary may be negotiable based on skills and experience)
Job Summary: The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Controller in managing the accounting operations of the company. This role involves overseeing financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
· Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
· Provide detailed financial analysis and insights to support management decision-making, including variance analysis and trend identification.
· Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key financial metrics and performance indicators.
· Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial data and ensure comprehensive and accurate reporting.
· Develop and maintain financial reporting systems and tools to streamline the reporting process.
General Ledger Management:
· Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring all entries are accurate and supported by appropriate documentation.
· Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
· Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
· Review and approve journal entries prepared by accounting staff, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
· Conduct regular reviews of general ledger accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
· Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts, collaborating with department heads to gather necessary information.
· Monitor budget variances and provide detailed analysis to management, identifying areas of concern and opportunities for cost savings.
· Support the preparation of financial models and projections, incorporating historical data and market trends.
· Provide training and support to department heads on budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with company goals.
· Develop and implement budgeting and forecasting tools and methodologies to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
· Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
· Coordinate and support internal and external audits, preparing audit schedules and providing documentation as required.
· Ensure compliance with tax regulations and other statutory requirements, including the preparation and filing of tax returns.
· Conduct regular reviews of internal controls and processes, identifying and addressing any weaknesses or gaps.
· Develop and maintain compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they are communicated and adhered to by the team.
Team Leadership and Development:
· Provide guidance and support to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
· Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support the professional development of team members.
· Ensure adequate training and resources are available to the accounting team, promoting continuous learning and improvement.
· Mentor and support junior accounting staff, sharing knowledge and best practices to help them succeed.
· Develop and implement team-building activities and initiatives to enhance team cohesion and morale.
Process Improvement:
· Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.
· Develop and document accounting policies and procedures, ensuring they are communicated and adhered to by the team.
· Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes, incorporating them into the company’s accounting processes.
· Lead initiatives to automate and streamline accounting processes, leveraging technology to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
· Conduct regular process reviews and audits to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Cash Management:
· Assist in overseeing cash flow management, including cash forecasting and liquidity planning, ensuring the company has sufficient funds to meet its obligations.
· Manage banking relationships and ensure efficient cash management practices, including the optimization of working capital.
· Monitor and analyze cash flow trends, providing regular reports and recommendations to management.
· Implement and maintain cash management policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
· Develop strategies to optimize cash flow and reduce financial risk.
Special Projects:
· Lead or support special projects as assigned by management, conducting financial analysis and research to support business decisions.
· Prepare ad-hoc reports and presentations, providing insights and recommendations based on financial data.
· Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes, contributing financial expertise and insights.
· Take initiative in identifying and proposing new projects that can add value to the organization, supporting the company’s strategic goals.
· Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
· CPA certification preferred.
· Industry experience in Agriculture, Construction, or Manufacture is highly preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
· Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
