💼 Role Overview
The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, ensure financial integrity, and provide actionable insights to support decision-making across our dairy and farming divisions. This role requires a strong understanding of agricultural accounting, cost structures, and inventory management, along with leadership skills to guide a small but mighty finance team.
📌 Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP/AR, payroll, and general ledger
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and present financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Strategic Planning & Analysis
- Partner with the CFO and executive team to develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models
- Analyze profitability across dairy and farming segments
- Provide insights on cost control, capital expenditures, and operational efficiency
- Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (including USDA and EPA guidelines)
- Maintain internal controls and implement best practices for financial reporting
- Coordinate audits and liaise with external accountants
- Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Oversee inventory tracking for livestock, feed, crops, and equipment
- Implement cost accounting systems to monitor production costs and margins
- Support ERP system upgrades and integrations
- Team Management
- Lead and mentor a team of 3–5 accounting professionals
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
🎯 Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in agriculture or manufacturing
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and GAAP
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, NetSuite, or QuickBooks Enterprise)
